Shala is a word in Sanskrit meaning ‘home’. A yoga shala, is a home where yoga is shared and experienced
We're offering you a simple space to develop a sincere Yoga practice. Our shala really is just one room, it's open + light with lot's of plants and quality mats + props. Classes are small in size so that we can create a more personal environment.
Ashtanga Mysore classes guided by Mark Ladanovski and Jessica Ludäscher in Amsterdam Oost.
We strive to live by the values of simplicity, sustainability, spiritual awareness, service and community. Our classes are traditional yet non-dogmatic. Based on the teachings of Krishnamacharya we aspire to teach what is appropriate for the individual. We teach with respect to the teachings and tradition as well as with respect to the physical body, mindset and capabilities of the student. We believe a healthy asana practice is a balance between flexibility, alignment and strength, your asana practice should make your mind clear and stable, and your body clean and healthy.
It is our intention to provide you with a comfortable environment in which to give you the tools to create an effective and lasting approach to improvement and maintenance of the mind and body.
Please understand that Ashtanga Yoga is much more than just a physical practice to us, along with Ayurveda, we consider it a lifestyle and this is how we will share it in our classes. There is a difference between a yoga studio and a yoga shala. Our shala is not a business, at least not one that pays our bills and general life expenses. Our shala is a place for you to learn and practice Yoga with other like minded people. We have invested our time, energy and financial resources into creating a space for you to maintain a consistent yoga practice. We teach as we are taught and what we are taught; we can guide you through the primary and intermediate series. For Advanced A and further, we will recommend one of our teachers.
* Ayurveda is a holistic tradition and way of living, Ayurveda is the sister science of Yoga
''PRACTICE AND ALL IS COMING''
- Sri K Pattabhi Jois
The traditional way of practicing Ashtanga Yoga is in a class setting called 'Mysore Style' this gives you the chance to practice the sequence at your own pace, with the assistance and guidance of a teacher who can help each student individually. Our Mysore program is led by Mark and Jessica who can teach the primary and intermediate series of Ashtanga Yoga. At Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga Shala we do not teach advanced a / third series onwards.
On the first Friday of the month we host a community Kirtan, usually followed with enough time for discussion and tea! You'll also notice New Moon Circles and Full Moon Women's Circles on our schedule. Four times a year we practice 108 Sun Salutations in celebration of the spring and autumn equinox and the summer and winter solstice. We also offer online pre-recorded Yoga Nidra videos.
We have a dog in the shala, please keep this in mind if you have any allergies. Our dog goes where we go, removing her from the premises is not an option.

Kenyan - Swiss background, originally from Diani Beach, Kenya and based in Amsterdam since 2011. Yoga and spirituality has been a theme throughout my childhood and naturally I found my way back to the Yoga practice upon moving to The Netherlands. I teach from my own experience and I consider my daily practice to be one of my greatest teachers. My classes reflect largely upon discipline, understanding, and balance; themes that have run constant in my life, as well as my practice. Yoga is the ability to direct the mind without distraction, I find that the easiest way for me to do that is to connect to my body. I decided to make teaching Yoga my lifestyle and purpose in 2012. This is something I said I wanted since I as maybe 12 years old as I found it to be the way to find peace within myself and to live in peace happy, a happy life. Certifications & Trainings

Sweet little miss Perla was found abandoned by her previous owners in Lithuania, we believe just shortly after the Covid-19 pandemic hit. Abandoning your pet and leaving it out to die is the absolute worst thing you can do! Thankfully Perla was found and rescued. Now, she's responsible for welcoming students into the shala and ensuring everyone leaves with a smile!
Ramune and Julija from Rescue Dogs and Cats NL are doing a great job working in collaboration with animal shelters in Lithuania, helping to adopt and rehome rescue dogs and cats to The Netherlands and allowing them to experience the love, kindness and safety that they deserve!
